I'm in Trouble

I took my baby for his 2 week check-up yesterday, and everything looks really good. James has gained 2 lbs since leaving the hospital - 1lb over his birth weight. We talked about his sleep habits, and eating habits, and the Doctor told me that I needed to start "tummy time", so he can strengthen his neck, and keep a nice round head.

Well, I had been warned during pregnancy by several Perinatal Specialists that I have an "over-active" baby. I figured as much, because I have an over-active Husband, but it still makes me nervous when I see toddlers running around destroying everything in sight knowing that those kids are probably in the normal range of active.

So, we had "tummy time" for the first time today, but as soon as I put James on his stomach he rolled over onto his back. But, I thought, "He can't have rolled over - that was probably a fluke." So, I turned him back over, and he rolled again! He rolled over every time I put him on his tummy. He's 2 weeks old! I thought the earliest babies roll is at 2 months. So much for tummy time. I've been watching him roll over all day, and we taped it when Shane got home. James is really tired in the video, so please excuse the screaming.

Ummm...yeah, that's CRAZY. Emma never even did that regularly until she was crawling - at 8 months. Good luck with this one!

They could tell that he was over active BEFORE he was born? Wow.

Coming from the mother of an active baby, they fast learners, and a lot of fun. With an exhuberant Dad, there should be no problem in exhausting his energy.

my daughter did the same.. she hated tummy time at first lol

have you tried doing it with a yoga ball.. some babies love that :)

ps... the toddlers running around destroying everything are usually the ones that never hear the word no. lol

my daughter is crazy hyper.. but she listens well and is extremely well behaved.

Wow, two weeks is early! Don't worry though, people are always telling me Landon is really active (you know Tyson) but luckily they kind of grow into it. Most of the time I don't notice because its the only thing I've known. : ) James sure is cute.

OH I love that. He reminds me of my kiddos.
Another way to avoid the flat head syndrome is to get a sling. I wear my babies and it really helps to strengthen their necks and avoid the flat spots.
He is just such a cutie!!!

You are completely correct!!!! You are in trouble. Some kids don't get this until half way through there first year and I've never heard of it half way through their first month. He is a beautiful baby! I didn't know you had a different blog than your husband and I have been stalking his blog for pictures and news on little baby James. So when I found this I hit the jackpot. Pictures and mommy stories. I love to hear the emotions of a new mom and you hit it on the nose. good luck. You will and i'm sure already are a fabulous mother.

Lauren, I don't think I've ever officially told you congratulations on your beautiful baby! I just caught up on all your posts and he is just so sweet and precious. I love how you describe your feelings about him. It's exactly how I feel about Teddy, but you put it into words so nicely.

Stumbled on your blog, and just wanted to let you know that my 5 month old can't do this yet, and from what I've read, they usually go from back to tummy first...this is incredible. I'm thinking Gold Medal Olympian incredible...
